Rachel is a writer and artist obsessed with fantasy. By day she works in animation and by night she writes, draws, sews and crafts in her muraled office fit for any wizard. Don't talk to her about animation or historical fashion unless you have four hours to spare. If she's not in the house (she's always in the house) you can find her playing dress up at the ren faire or taking a jaunt to the local thrift on the hunt for new trinkets. Lianna Bontrower will be dead within the year. Only the Great Beatrice Bontrower knows the magic to close it. The problem? She's disappeared through the veil for reasons unknown. To save the human realm, its Beatrice's daughter, Lianna, who must find her. But Lianna has a debilitating heart curse that not only will kill her by the end of the year, but foretells of a fae meant to steal the beating organ from her chest, feed his wicked magic and destroy everything she loves. Crossing the veil could only mean certain death and barely more chance of finding her mother.Fitted only with a magical chattelaine and her walking cane, Lianna enters the strange land to immediate disaster and is rescued by a beast of a man who turns out to be the very demon meant to steal her heart. With no other help on the horizon, she makes him an offer: he will act as her guide and help her find her mother in exchange for her heart. His intentions are deadly, but the clock is ticking before the veil is lifted and Lianna has little choice but to trust the man who makes her weakened heart beat wildly for more reasons than one. Together the wary companions traverse the wilds of Faerie to find Beatrice and close the veil before the monsters of the other land are unleashed onto the human realm. But the path will not be an easy one, for Lianna's mother is a woman of many secrets and these secrets have teeth.
